Work out your startup costs

Separate the money needed to open from the money needed each month.

Upfront costs

Gather quotes for the machine or finance deposit, delivery, installation, payment hardware, initial stock and any storage equipment.

Keep a reserve for unexpected costs. Record each quote’s currency, date and what is included. Do not count a financed purchase balance as both upfront cash and monthly repayments.

Recurring and per-sale costs

Include rent, travel, maintenance, connectivity, insurance and financing payments in monthly costs. Record product purchase costs, payment charges and revenue-based site commission separately.

Check whether quoted costs include taxes. Use a consistent basis for selling prices and costs; the calculator estimates operating surplus before tax and does not calculate local tax obligations.

Stress-test demand

Enter your own cautious, expected and optimistic daily sales. Test a quieter month and a repair bill before deciding how much cash you need.

Break-even sales cover recurring costs. Payback compares operating surplus with upfront cash; it excludes tax, resale value and changing future demand.
